Accommodation at Ratelgat

This is a unique environment.

You will be staying in improvised but traditional Griqua huts with all the latest mod cons - the only difference between what the people faced three hundred years ago and the region as it is today. The arid region surrounding your oasis has never changed and gives you the unique opportunity to walk in the footsteps of South Africa's first explorers.

The cost per adult per night (including all meals) is just ZAR250 (about US$45).

There are just twenty eight bed “matjieshuise” styled in the traditional kraal with chief’s “matjieshuis” in center.

The Griqua choirs and dancing groups will meet at “matjieshuis kraal” - these will be peak seasons at this unique location...contact us for details.

Despite its isolation there are hot showers and an ablution block.

In the village homestays quarters there is a lapa and bar-b-que (braai) and traditional Griqua dishes can be cooked on site.

There is even the world's most remote swimming pool... yes a swimming pool in one of the driest parts of the world!
